If the rest of the book is as good as Chapter 10, this ought to be a great one.

Like you, I was a functioning addict…I completed a 20 yr military career while drinking myself into oblivion for the first 15yrs of it.

It will be interesting to read your book to see if there were similarities in how we managed to try to cover up our problems.

Hi Tony-

I was a big fan of yours when I played offensive line in college a couple of years after you did. Even got myself a couple of Powerhouse Gym, East Lansing, MI t-shirts. It was great to see an o-lineman get as much attention as you did.

Here’s the thing. I knew a few of your teammates and opponents in the Big Ten, and it was fairly obvious to them of your ‘use’. So these revelations are no big surprise. What was never in question was your work ethic and devotion to the game at MSU. But what I hope your book covers in some detail is your comeback: “the fall”, your later acceptance of your own responsibility in your professional setbacks, and rising again to play in the NFL. It would have been easy to stay down. But you didn’t. Surely your days in Green Bay would have impressed upon you the old Lombardi quote which emphasizes that greatness is not about never failing, never falling, but in rising again after you fall.
