Tony Mandarich, former NFL offensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts, finds himself behind bars on February 25, 2009, but for a very good cause.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) February 24, 2009 — On February 25, 2009, former NFL offensive lineman and 1989 first-round draft pick Tony Mandarich relinquishes his freedom for a day, raising donations and awareness for the MDA community.

“Times are tough this year for everyone,” explains Tony. “But devastating diseases such as muscular dystrophy doesn’t take the year off because we are in a recession. More than ever, the MDA community needs our help, and I’m honored to be behind bars to help these kids and adults.”

The driving force that enables the MDA to accelerate its worldwide research program and provide diagnostic and follow-up care is its’ more than two million volunteers nationwide. But it takes much more than volunteers to make research and treatment available.

On an annual basis, the MDA holds various fundraisers that solicit the involvement of local business and community leaders. These individuals agree to be “arrested” for having a “big heart” in the fun, MDA Lock-Up. This unique community-wide event raises funds for Jerry’s kids.

On February 25, Mandarich will remain “locked up” until his goal of $2,400 is raised. Tony is asking for your help in raising his bail money, “Your donation will set me free, and help fund vital research and treatment for the millions who are suffering with muscular dystrophy.”

To learn more about the MDA Lock-Up and to make a donation, visit Tony Mandarich’s Lockup Page.
